MAP<\/a><\/p>\n Art Map Burlington #23<\/strong><\/p>\n Artist reception during March’s First Friday Art, 5-7PM<\/p>\n Beginning in 2012, Art\u2019s Alive dedicated its Winter Exhibition to the Art of Photography. In 2012, two photographers, Rick Jasany and Kevin Morin were chosen to exhibit. In 2013, the exhibition was expanded to four photographers and featured Robin Katrick, Trine Wilson, Melissa Thebarge and Laina Johnson. In 2014, the decision was made to expand this exhibition to an open call to all resident Vermont photographers, inviting artists to present 1-3 pieces for display.<\/p>\n (image: Woody<\/em> by Sharon Radtke)<\/p>\n Artist reception during February’s First Friday Art, 5:30-7:30PM<\/p>\n Selected from more than 5,500 entries, the winning photos were published in the Summer 2017 issue of Audubon Magazine<\/em> and show birdlife at its most vivid, vulnerable, formidable, and elegant. Photographers from 49 states and eight Canadian provinces submitted images in three categories: professional, amateur, and youth. A panel of five judges had the daunting task of sifting through the stunning images and grading them based on technical quality, originality, and artistic merit.<\/p>\n Visit the exhibit to walk among the winning bird photographs from this year\u2019s Audubon Photography Awards and learn more about your local birdlife and Audubon Vermont\u2019s work. From songbirds wreaking havoc on much larger raptors, to couples dancing in the throes of courtship, the spectrum of performances is near infinite.<\/p>\n In December, Art\u2019s Alive is taking a break and sharing the walls with “The Polar Express” brought to you by the Vermont Children\u2019s Trust Foundation (VCTF). VCTF believes that when children thrive our communities flourish. VCTF raises funds and makes grants to Vermont organizations that provide prevention programs serving children and their families. We know the more children are engaged with school, safe activities and positive groups within their community, the more likely they are to be successful students, gain confidence and make wise choices.<\/p>\n Artist Reception during First Friday Art<\/p>\n “Boundaries”: Boundaries can mean a frontier, or a line that marks limits. In the natural world, our eye is drawn to natural boundaries of mountain ranges, waterways, farms and fences, rocks and trees. Art can also be a way to push the boundaries–to push our own limits and create something new. Whether using traditional means, or finding new ways to go beyond the ordinary, this exhibit showcases watercolor’s possibilities.<\/p>\n Opening reception during First Friday Art<\/p>\n The Northern Vermont Artist Association was founded in Burlington in 1931 by Harold S. Knight and a group of Vermont artists. The nationally renowned artist Maxfield Parrish was among the founding members. The NVAA is open to all visual artists living in the northern half of Vermont. Those of us diagnosed and on the front line are resources too often overlooked. We hope to mirror your reflection with ours on the surface of poetry and painting. A painting\u2019s value can have the worth of a glass of water or a single breath, if the action has been successful. If allowed exposure we can work together and rediscover our original voices. While defying marginalization and the pressures of isolation we look forward to see you at the show receiving gifts where eyes meet,” said Tom Merwin. Merwin has painted with his friends for the past four years. Using the visual arts is a valid and proven access to our whole and healed being. Merwin plans to convert his existing gallery to an expanded studio space to create an alternative work place where we can help ourselves while sharing our shared experiences as seeds for potential, and art as a radiant catalyst. He said, “We exhibit as an engaged creative movement to dismantle marginalization, to travel beyond the social construct that separates the mentally and physically disabled from our purpose to contribute and share our discovered truths.”<\/p>\n Artist and teacher reception during July’s First Friday Art<\/p>\n Art\u2019s Alive is excited to welcome the students from the Bellcate School in Essex. Josh Sinz teaches art there. They are a small, independent, grassroots school with blended therapeutic\/academic programs serving the needs of students with individualized learning styles. In this exhibit, students show artwork that deals with fiber\/folk art, up-cycled, and identity pieces. Students have multiple visual arts classes, where they have the opportunity to create individualistic forms of artwork and use a variety of techniques\/materials to discover methods to which they can achieve their desired outcome. The Art\u2019s Alive Festival of Fine Art has celebrates the visual art of Vermont residents with a Juried Exhibition hosted by Main Street Landing and installed at the Art\u2019s Alive Gallery\/SEABA in Historic Union Station at the foot of Main Street in on Burlington’s Waterfront. The Juried Exhibition is judged by two independent professionals in the field of visual arts who are not affiliated with Art\u2019s Alive and three cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. An additional cash prize is presented to an artist for the Roberto W. \nThe organizers of the Vermont Pastel Society 2016 Members’ Show have made some fun and entertaining changes to the usual process of offering no prizes to this non-juried exhibition. The VPS wants to honor the varied and considerable talents of a larger group of artists rather than to just commend a few \u201ctop winners”, so several categories of awards with clever titles (Most Luminous Landscape, Most Lively Still Life, etc.) have been chosen to promote and recognize the diverse work of this group. Mickey Myers, Executive Director of Bryan Memorial Gallery in Jeffersonville, brings her playful spirit to the venue as the judge.<\/p>\n
