When Kasini House selected emerging artist Torrey Valyou for the 2007 print, he was on the verge of graduating from the University of Vermont. “We met Torrey and became familiar with his work when he joined the First Fifty exhibition in February 2007,” said Kasini House director Ric Kasini Kadour. “We are excited by the look and concept of Torrey’s piece.” Valyou, a native of Vermont, lives in Winooski and works as an illustrator and printmaker.
The 2007 First Friday Art Walk print shows two hands extending out from one another on a bright orange stripes with paisleys. “Hands are very common in most of my pieces; my hands create what my mind sees," said Valyou. "In this case the hands represent my exposure to the world, and more specifically Burlington."
