First Friday Art Walk Print 2008
by Colin-Patrick Charles
11x17” on 15”x22”, silkscreen ink on paper, 2008
edition of 30, signed and numbered by artist
$75

Colin-Patrick Charles was born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Loyola University, Chicago with a B.A. in philosophy. He moved to Burlington in 2006 where he lives and works as an artist, illustrator, and graphic designer. Charles draws with India ink on paper and his work often looks more like etchings than drawings. The lines are precise. His composition is dynamic.

Colin-Patrick's subjects are often absurd plots, connected only by the lines, shadings and cross-hatchings of his technique. His drawings often feature characters situated in a non-linear narrative and they are snapshots of stories, windows into worlds. The artist's rejection of linear story telling is not out of contempt for the viewer; his intention is not to avoid making sense for the sake of not making sense. By working this way, Charles pays homage to the impossible, implausible, the ridiculous and in doing that celebrates the power of raw creativity. As the viewer, we are asked to imagine the complete life history that lead up to the single moment in time contained in the image in front of us.

When asked to explain his concept for the 2008 print, Colin-Patrick writes, "These were observed racing over the Intervale in a furry flurry of furious verisimilitude, the son manque presiding."
